Your question

My child has fever

Assessment

A mild fever in children is common and often caused by infection. It can usually be managed at home if the child is alert and drinking fluids.

What You Can Do At Home

  • Give plenty of fluids — water, ORS, breast milk
  • Let the child rest and wear light clothing
  • Sponge with normal water if fever is high
  • Give paracetamol syrup as per weight if very uncomfortable

Warning Signs

  • Fever above 102°F for more than 48 hours
  • Difficulty breathing or fast breathing
  • Convulsions or fits
  • Child becomes drowsy or unconscious
  • Refuses to drink or eat

Recommended Next Step

Visit the nearest PHC or ASHA worker if fever lasts more than 48 hours or warning signs appear.

Free Public Health Services
